She is a former biochemist and patented inventor, studied biochemistry at the University of Colorado, and received her J.D. from American University Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C. She is admitted to the California, Colorado, District of Columbia, and Texas bars, and is a registered patent attorney with the USPTO.
